When your employee calls you and says that she is in severe physical pain and has booked an appointment with a doctor the correct response to said employee, contrary to your beliefs, is not an incredulous "So you're not coming in at all then?"
I swear to God if I'd had any sleep last night I'd be looking through the want ads. When your attitude about what justly constitutes a sick day is more fucked up than mine? Dude, no. Just no.
Backstory: got woken up last night by, of all things, a severe earache. Couldn't get back to sleep, couldn't get a doctor's appointment until this afternoon. Ear is feeling somewhat better now (I suspect since I've been sitting up) but even I know that if a part of your body hurts so bad that a) it wakes you up and b) keeps hurting for at least five solid hours that perhaps, just perhaps, answering phones at the office is not your highest priority that day.
Reason #973,488,236 for me to get out of debt: If I had anything that vaguely resembled a savings account right now I would so quit.
