Happy birthday to
rubywisp!
Belly dance kicked my ass last night. Turns out last week the teacher decided to teach us all a choreographed piece. I had a mixed reaction to this, because on the one hand the improv nature of tribal is part of what drew me to it in the first place. But on the other hand now that I've led a few times I recognize the benefits of a piece where you can turn your brain off for a few minutes and just dance. Plus it's a new skill.
It's harder, though. Before we learn 1-3 types of steps and then practice them. This is a whole slew of new steps one after another, and it's Rachel Brice stuff on top of that, so hella hard.
But I like a challenge, so I'm battening down and giving it my best.
It's funny, because having missed a day and seeing all this dumped on us made me feel like I was uber out of the loop. However it turns out that the other students don't know the piece that well for all that they had the extra day, and both the teacher and one of the other students said I was doing insanely well for somebody who just started working on it. I told them they missed out a prime practical joke opportunity, since they all could've pretended this was old hat to them and why on earth couldn't I keep up?
Various links and interesting discussions on the flist today:
versaphile talks about the various personas of Wesley.
fanthropology wants to know about terminology specific to your fandom, what words from your fandom that you'd like to see in wider use, and what words aren't out there yet that you think should be created.
eliade wants to know beyond fannish stuff, what do you do with your free time?
And somewhere out there are pictures of me in a swimming pool, but you can't see them. Neener neener neener.
