Somewhat brain dead today (shut up) but otherwise content with the world. Had good students this morning which is always a happy thing. Having a room to myself this afternoon would be even better. ;)

Continuing the theme of "Commercials I don't get" I've got to mention one for Blimpie that I saw the other day (it's a sandwich shop). It starts out with this woman who I think was supposed to be copping New York or Jersey attitude but the accent wasn't real so it was hard to tell.

Anyway, she's emoting all over the place as though she's down with the hood that is the Tri-State area and sneering to the camera that this commercial is directed at people [sneer] "born before 1980".

So already I'm sitting there wondering when 23 suddenly became considered over the hill. But then she goes on to explain, sneering all the while (and I wanna point out this wasn't like a fake Billy Idol sneer being done for fun, I mean an actual sneer of contempt for the audience) that Blimpie sandwiches are better than Subway sandwiches and here's all the reasons why. Which is a fine idea in theory but with the attitude she's giving off the actual execution is basically the message that she, and the company she works for, could not think less of us if they tried.

Who approved that as an ad campaign? Is this the ad for the co-dependant? "Oh I'm so sorry I'm too stupid to make my own sandwich choices! Tell me what to eat so I can earn your approval!" Screw that. Did somebody say McDonald's?

And I gotta say - still not getting the hoopla over the Orli GAP ad. Yes, I grok a little of the concept behind it now, but I actually read an article in TV Guide or the like cheering for joy over the wonder that is this ad, literally citing the fact that the walking then running thing is what drew them in. I am so not getting this. They walk, they run. I'm given to understand many a sneaker ad has also conveyed the concept of people being able to move at various speeds while using only the power of their feet.

Now the question of the day - will TBQ actually get work done or waste time playing around with email and the like? Only time will tell.
