Head? Meet wall

thebratqueenI'm reading the net on my lunch break and seeing people's reactions to Dubya's press conference last night. For those of you who missed it, at one point during the conference a reporter asked him "In the last campaign, you were asked a question about the biggest mistake you’d made in your life, and you used to like to joke that it was trading Sammy Sosa. You’ve looked back before 9/11 for what mistakes might have been made. After 9/11, what would your biggest mistake be, would you say, and what lessons have learned from it?" To which Dubya responded "I wish you’d have given me this written question ahead of time so I could plan for it.", then ended his comments with "I hope — I don’t want to sound like I have made no mistakes. I’m confident I have. I just haven’t — you just put me under the spot here, and maybe I’m not as quick on my feet as I should be in coming up with one. "
Now take a moment to process that. A guy who we need to lead this country and make important decisions first off wasn't prepped for this press conference well enough to handle one of the most basic questions anyone can be asked (as![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
plaidder pointed out, isn't "What are your strengths/weaknesses?" pretty much the core questions of any job-related interview?), and second couldn't think on his feet well enough to provide an answer he could be satisfied with. If he chokes under the pressure of a question that could've even been answered with a joke (see his Sammy Sosa response) then how the Hell is he handling the bigger decisions? (And how the hell are his people prepping him if nobody guessed that a question like this might come up?)
Got that? Now take in the response I just saw somebody give to that:
"This is why he is getting my vote. I feel Bush is an honest man. I like the fact he can admit he does not have a good answer, and that he is not going to create one. "
I... I.... I have no words. I'm going to go cry bitter tears now. Don't mind me.
