Angel 5.9 Harm's Way
Jan. 14th, 2004 10:24 pmYou know the thing that this episode really shows is that Harmony is not the new Cordy. She's the new Andrew. And speaking as someone who likes Andrew I have to say there ain't nothing wrong with that.
Good ep. Fun ep. Amazing ep considering that it was between sweeps. I have to say one of the things that affects how well I rate a season is whether or not the non-sweeps non-arc eps are total bruce throwaways or if they're actually good eps. This? Was a good ep.
Props to Mercedes for doing a great comedic performance. There was a lot of material in here that could have fallen very very flat depending on her performance. But she moved great, she looked good and she sold the whole thing.
Plus I have to admit I'm a total whore for W&H slice of life stuff and this ep was hardly anything but. It was the undead Elle Woods and the office she worked in. I can live with this.
Admittedly the Spike thing at the end was stupid in the extreme, and quite possibly manages to answer the question of "What's a lamer reason for not seeing somebody offscreen that's not the ones they used to explain why they didn't call Cordelia in s3 during Charisma's so-called personal time?" but eh. I can ignore it. Which is potentially a bad thing considering that I'm probably supposed to care but I don't so there we are.
I don't have much in terms of deep analysis for this ep since it's not one that really begs for any, so just sticking with random comments:
So, you can fit a
You know if they're going to make Fred a physist and a coroner (thank you
Speaking of which, I don't dispute Gunn speaking demon languages in the slightest, nor do I dispute him knowing all the demon etiquette since that falls under a vague translation of the phrase "Gunn learned all the law he needed to know for this job" but once again I'm left wondering what exactly Wes does to fill his day beyond looking really hot and being at Angel's beck and call so he can sit around Angel's office while wearing his shirts partially unbuttoned. Or did I just answer my own question?
obShallow: Alexis looks good with a tan. Raise your hand if you wondered about tan lines? Yeah, I thought so.
TBQ prediction #1: It will take .03 seconds for icons relating to Wes being muffins to spread all over LJ
TBQ prediction #2: Many people will wonder why Angel was sporting damage in this ep in spite of Fred's clunky reminder that it was only a few days since the events of Destiny.
Hi Lorne, bye Lorne.
Shame Harmony and Tamika didn't do a girly bitchslap fight a la Harmony and Xander. OTOH if they had to do a stunt double-y fight then I'm glad they went with the decision to give Harmony simple rudimentary skills that you could easily imagine her picking up in a self-defense class somewhere.
Nice shout-out to the shooting script for Disharmony.
For those not in the know, one of the companies cited in the W&H training tape was, IIRC, the parent corporation of Fox.
Next week brings us David Boreanaz's directorial debut. I shall be as merciless on him as anybody else. So no pressure big guy.
