Here's the letter I sent my Congresspeople re: Bush's support of an Amendment to the Constitution:

I know this has come up before. I know I've written to you before. But now we've got the president saying he could support an Amendment like this if it was necessary. That is unacceptable.

I am one of your constituents. I am gay. Now I could go into a long list of the good works I do to prove my acceptability to you as a human being but that's not the point.

The point is that any laws which "protect the sanctity of marriage" are laws done on religious grounds, not legal ones. We already have a Constitutional amendment which takes care of that little problem. If I, as a gay person, am expected to obey the laws laid out in our Constitution then straight people are too.

I'm looking forward to hearing your responses, which shall hopefully give me great pride when I point to the people who represent me in Congress. After all, if the President of this country can't be bothered to know the laws then somebody should. Here's hoping it's you.

Thanks,
