Okay, first off:
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!
GOD it was so good! Loved it loved it loved it loved it! I swear I spent the entire - what? 10 hours I spent reading this constantly talking back to the book, although mostly my conversation consisted of "Gasp!" and "That bitch!" and words to that effect. I was so into it that the few times I had to stop to go to the bathroom or grab a soda (caffiene is so my co-pilot today) that I literally ran to do it b/c I didn't want to put the book down for long (and I would have brought the book with except Christ it's heavy).
How to comment? Where to even begin?
Okay, I love bitter Harry. Snark is such a good look on him. I hope he continues to keep that bitchy streak.
Snape? Loved. Ron? Loved. Twins? Loved.
Spoiler-whore me, I knew about Sirius's death going into it and I've got to say I appreciated JKR's little red-herrings about who the death was. She definitely set it up to look like it'd be one of the Weasley's, then later Hermione so props to her there. Though I have to say if I hadn't been spoilered on at least the fact that there was a major character death (having only just found out it was Sirius two days ago) I might not have been as emotionally involved in the whole "we have to save Sirius" thing in the first place.
As for the actual death - I had such a Buffy moment with it. Didn't get upset with the moment of death but, just as I didn't get teary about Buffy until Spike lost it, I didn't get teary about Sirius until Harry tried to talk to him via the mirror and, well - sniffle.
Have to admit the death itself was a little anticlimactic. Reason being that b/c Harry had earlier lived through the attack on Mr. Weasley I was sucking in my breath and thinking that when Sirius died Harry would be inside of Voldemort when it happened. So I was so busy being all a-quiver over this deliciously evil possibility that when Sirius simply died in battle I was taken by surprise. But that's entirely my fault. I'm sure if I hadn't been spoilered to know it was Sirius that I would have been shocked at the actual moment.
Oh - also having been spoilered about it part of me kept wondering if Sirius was going to suicide. I mean he was so depressed and drinking and all, and when he did that good-bye to Harry it sounded so final like he knew.
What else, what else...
Gotta say - Fudge and Umbridge? So not funny when we're currently living in Dubya's America. Definitely one of those moments where it's not funny because it's true.
And dude, how about those ho,yay! shout-outs? Man, when Dudley asked if Cedric was Harry's boyfriend I was on the floor. And was there a single slash pairing who didn't get loads of delicious canon to work with? (I know, I know - not on purpose. But please, when has that ever stopped slashers before? ;) ) (Oh - anyone who wants to pimp me fic? Now would be the time. C'mon. Give me your recs. At this point I'm a whore enough for anything HP that I'll even read stuff that isn't my own personal HP OTPs, although I will ask that it be Harry-centric. Never really got into any of the professor pairings)
Ack! I'm sure I'm forgetting stuff. Oh well, more to talk about later. Yay book!
Now to finish fixing dinner and then catch up on my friends page ;)
