God I'm tired. I need a nap, yet I'm besiged by new plot bunnies that are demanding to be written. Luckily I'm plowing through most of my work, so that'll leave me with some free time in the afternoon.

Ahh, so nice to get back to the good writers. We need the rest of the season to be written by nobody but Jeff Bell and Tim. God - I was having many, many moments of squee over Dark!Angel. Plus - much though I whimper every time Wes ends up with the fuzzy end of the lollipop - I love the mind-fuck they're doing with the fans of giving us the impression that Wes would be saved as soon as Gunn and Fred show up, except not so much. And Torture!Angel!! Yay! We missed you sweetie! Come, sit, stay a while. No, really.

And the ending - God. I saw the picture but the reality is even better. Loving, loving, loving the fact that Angel lies his way to get in there, then makes sure Wes knows that it's Angel, and then attacks him. PURRRR. Nothing like a side order of dark with your dark.

Yeah, sure, my A/W shipper heart is sad that they're not getting along, but OTOH I honestly don't need them together on the show (even as friends) to be a happy A/W shipper. I get my happy from seeing the show acknowledge their relationship. The reason why the scene works is because we know how important Angel is to Wes, and we know what it will feel like for Wes to see Angel hate him so much.

Gonna be real interesting to see where they go from here. Are they going to try to reconcile Angel and Wes's friendship before the season ends? How's Wes going to react to Angel trying to kill him? Lotta potential. Pardon me while I go club David Greenwalt and Mere Smith like a pair of baby seals to make sure all that potential gets tapped.

Tiny nitpicks? I would've preferred a slightly more believable explanation to why they didn't call Cordy, although that may be something that plays better when I see it live. However - sorry Charisma - still not missing Cordy in the slightest.

Also I think I would have liked more of an acknowledgement of Angel and Wes's friendship in the month after Connor was born besides what we got with the prophecy thing. Here's why - we know that Angel is important to Wes (Wes even says so in Couplet), but with Angel being so devoted to Connor and his new crush on Cordy, we've lost sight of how important Wes was to Angel. I think the pathos of the current A/W split would be even better if we also felt from Angel's side that it was the loss of a friendship. With the months of Angel acting like a big dork who didn't give a shit about anybody who's name doesn't begin with C, him trying to kill Wes really doesn't play any different than if he tried to kill Lilah, or a random person on the street.

But honestly that can go back to my big beef with the apres-Connor storylines anyway. I can understand Angel's devotion to his kid, but what little else he had got put into Cordy related storylines and it really hurt the show and the character. The show is called Angel. If your main fucking character doesn't have a relationship with 75% of the cast that's there for him you've got a problem.

But again, this is why we like the good writers. Purr.
