eep

There is nothing but nothing which will unman you more than hearing your dad get choked up with tears.

My grams had some x-rays taken yesterday because a cough made her back act up, and since she's got osteoperosis it's entirely possible that back pain means another one of her bones has fractured. Apparently they saw something on the x-rays that made them want to take her into the hospital for a closer look. Dad's going in to the city to help take care of all that but when he called me to let me know and make sure mom knew about it, he got a little choked up.

Which is possibly because hey, it's his mom and he doesn't like anything that means she's hurting. But OTOH I know my dad and it's not uncommon for him to gloss over details when he doesn't want me and the boys worrying.

So... eep.

My mom needs to improve her reporting abilities. Imagine all this being told to me in a cheerful, upbeat tone of voice:

"So I talked with your brother and told him that Daddy said that the aneurysm, well Grandma is doing okay, spiritually okay, and they've got her in a bed in the emergency room and - "

And there's me on the other end of the phone feeling like one of [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda's recaps: whoa whoa whoa, back that train the fuck up: polar bear? aneurysm?

Or, perhaps more emotionally apropriate, aneurysm?

(Not that I swore at my mother. I save that for when we discuss politics.)

Anyway, so that's the scary vocab word of the moment. Possible intestinal aneurysm, not sure yet, Dad's trying not to use up too much of his cell phone battery until they know more. Current outlook is eepy, particularly as Dad has apparently suggested plans where he cancels his trip to CA for my nephew's christening and I go by my lonesome as the East Coast representative.

So... yeah. Eep.

Thanks to all those who sent/are sending hugs/healing vibes/prayers/etc. I'm kind of in denial girl mode at the second and doing lots of individual replies like I usually do makes my eep factor go a little too high. But it is very, very appreciated. Thank you.

Got the latest from Mom. Apparently the aneurysm thing has been taken off the menu. It's now either a fracture, as they originally assumed, or a torn aeorta. Grams is 3rd in line for having her xray seen by a specialist and once he takes a look at it she'll either get sent home if it's a fracture, or go into surgery if it's a torn aeorta.

Again, thanks to everybody who's sending good vibes/prayers/well wishes.

YAY!

Update from Mom. Looks like it was just a fracture. Grams gets to go home and go back into the care of her own doctor and all that good stuff.

Whew.

Thank you so much to everybody who sent good thoughts/vibes/prayers. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Now to go shut off my brain.

Er - with TV, or something. I just realized that sounded remarkably ominous. I'm just tired and wrung out. I'm going to go stare at that box in the corner with the pretty pictures.
