You know, I've called Dubya the most evil president we've had since LBJ and the more I learn about this son of a bitch the more I sadly find out I'm right.
Now, granted, the latest thing I've been learning from is Lies, and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them aka Al Franken's new book, but the point is I take what I read there, I google it, and I don't come up with things that make me happy.
Which is probably as good a moment as any to say that as of right now (meaning this might change) I'm currently backing Howard Dean. As I was telling
wiebke the 2000 election has left me something of a battered housewife, viz. seriously uneager to extend trust to anything politically considering how much the rules in this country apparently don't matter, but as much as I'm daring to trust (and abuse run-on sentences) I gotta say I like Dean.
Though, to be fair, right now the only candidate running could be doing so on the all child-molesting, puppy-killing, let's actually murder TBQ in the most painful way possible platform and I'd still vote for him or her because of their very crucial sub-platform of "Not Dubya". So take my endorsement for what it's worth.
Of the things I like Dean-wise which do not involve him not being Dubya, I've got to say there's the anti-war with Iraq, the pro-GLBT issues and even the fact that he's taken a stance on mental health issues. Plus I like any man smart enough to hire people who were actually able to figure out how to use the Internet and use it well (see also Blog For America which you can get as an LJ feed as
blogforamerica).
Of course just as I start to show my support, the Dems are apparently trying to figure out a way to shove Dean out of the running because they don't think he'll win against Bush. Which just goes to show the crack reasoning skills which have made the Democrats a force to be dealt with over the past 3 years, which is to say about as intimidating as a day old kitten, only not as aggressively adorable but just as likely to drool.
I mean yes, granted, Dean is pretty out there compared to Bush but am I the only person capable of seeing that if someone in the US wanted to vote for a Bush-like politician that they do not lack for that option? I'd also like to point out that my pen is also more out there than Bush, politically speaking, since my pen also does not take actions against other countries against the express wishes of the UN, a good chunk of America, and everybody else in the known world who is not Tony Blair. That I know of. I will admit I don't take the pen home with me at night. For all I know it makes phone calls.
Anyway, Dean's trying to hit some milestones in terms of membership and money raised by the end of this month and so far I like what I see of the guy so I thought I'd pimp him a bit.
Of course this assumes I don't win my bet with myself that come 2004 voting for a new President will be declared an act of treason under Patriot Act III.
We now go back to your regularly scheduled fannishness.
