FWIW

I got a Journalfen journal. It's under the oh-so-original name of thebratqueen.

Right now I have no plans to use the journal much since I much prefer the cross-section of people I get here than simply writing in a fen-only area and therefore cutting myself off from the great conversations you can have with people outside of fandom. So please by no means feel a need to stampede over there and bookmark it or whatever 'cause boy are you going to be bored.

OTOH it is there if you want to friend me for JF friends-locked posts.

Mind you, that all depends on how often I feel inclined to check over there too. Frankly right now I suspect I won't be bothering much unless people point out stuff with links, ideally in their LJs (hint hint).

Today feels like a good day. It's that perfect temperature where opening all the windows makes the house feel like the definition of "fresh air".

Plus I don't have work so I get to be lazy and do whatever I want to. This will include cooking, editing the next Million Miles Away story, and working on an essay I wanna write in response to one of the advice questions someone asked me.

I've tried watching the news but I just can't. The amount of propaganda being shown disgusts me, and the rah rah cheering over Shock and Awe makes me want to vomit. Actually Shock and Awe itself just makes me want to vomit, but the cheering doesn't help. I touch base with the news every now and again because it would sicken me more to think that another bombing like A-Day could happen while I'm over here all "la la la gay sex" and oblivious, but other than that nada.

I actually thought about doing a long rant about Shock and Awe, and about how crass it is, and how blatent the manipulation is that mass destruction like this is given a name to catch our attention like it was some kind of god-damned Nike commercial, but then I realized this is a lily that doesn't need guilding. Nobody needed to have the horror of 9-11 explained to them because I daresay it was pretty obvious. I'm going to likewise go out on a limb and assume that nobody needs to be told how disgusting this is either.

At least - nobody here at any rate. The news media is another issue, but there we are.

Confidence

Okay, so in the advice thing, [livejournal.com profile] damoyre asked:

I'd probably ask you about confidence. *g* You always seem so outspoken and self-assured, very confident in everything you do. I'd ask "How do you do that?"

Which actually got me thinking, because these days I don't often think about being confident, I just do what I do and people call it that. Plus, to a certain extent, a lot of the things I do that people see as confident - speaking up, standing up for what I feel, etc - I've always done. Back in elementary school it got me branded as a kid with "attitude", now I'm "famously confident". Benefits of age I suppose ;)

However, there was a time in my life when I wouldn't have called myself confident, and that was a time when I had to rebuild myself from scratch. So, in honor of [livejournal.com profile] damoyre's question, I offer you this essay/trip down memory lane:

Gaining Confidence 101, or Do you want to be like TBQ? Sure! We all do! )

Okay, the latest story in the Million Miles Away series (AKA "Connor has two daddies") is up!

Angel and Wesley try to find a new home in Settling In.

Enjoy!

New icon. A riff on a saying that [livejournal.com profile] lucifrix saw.
