I had a [livejournal.com profile] lucifrix this week and you didn't, neener neener neener. There was eating of food and watching of DVDs and I dare say fun was had. At least by me. [livejournal.com profile] lucifrix will have to speak for herself, assuming she wasn't eaten by snow beasts on her way home.

After dropping her off at the train station I hit the bookstore, then went home to read and nap. Not at the same time. Though boy would I get so much done if I could.

Only 2 days left until I have to go back to work again. It was a productive vacation, and I shall miss it.

Now to start the new year off with a meme! Which I have stolen from [livejournal.com profile] ktnb81:

Please comment with something you think I should do or try to do in 2009. Big or small, silly or earth-changing.

So yesterday after I did my Day of Listening post I then tackled a project that's been hanging over my head for a while: clearing crud off of my desktop computer. This took HOURS. Thank God for my laptop which helped distract me while I dealt with click, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaait, click, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaait, lather, rinse, repeat. I started around 2pm, took a brief break for dinner, and only got to a point of "Good enough to be done for now" at around midnight. Yeah.

Protip: If you are going to be in a situation of being stuck waiting for HOURS, TV Tropes is your friend. (No, I won't link. Then I won't see you guys again for days.) It's all about using that time-sucking power as a force for good, people.

So that's why I didn't get around to answering the questions yesterday, but I shall today! Especially since it's a nice way to pass the time as I sit here on the couch with a Luna draped across my wrists. (She says hi.)

Today is the first annual National Day of Listening. I find this to be a very nifty idea. I also see no need for it to be limited to people you can talk to.

So! I want to listen to you guys! By which I mean read, though I suppose there could be voice posts as well if people were so inclined.

I'll start off with some questions from the website. Feel free to answer or ignore as many as you like. Replies can go here or post in your own journal. And by all means spread the love around! Encourage others to participate! Come up with questions of your own! I'll do some answering of my own in a later post, so if there's anything you'd like to hear me natter on about let me know!

And thank you in advance for enabling my geekiness. =)

I am told it is more joy day! I'm rather busy today - and let's pause to honor the enjoyment of my job - but I share this newly gotten icon with you as it does indeed give me joy.

What am I doing?

Yes I went over the limit. I DO NOT CARE! I AM A REBEL! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Lots of things done today, mostly in the realm of cleaning and finally doing stuff on my computer that needed doing. I have Spanish podcasts on my ipod now! Woo!

Much thanks to those woh passed on congratulations for my raise. I have to admit I'm somewhat in denial about what it means budget-wise. I keep feeling like I'm doing the math wrong. I was a good girl, though, and immediately upped the amount of money that's automatically placed into my savings. I'm actually doing okay on what I made pre-raise, so it's no big whoop to place a chunk of it away for a future vacation and/or rainy day. I'm keeping some extra so I can enjoy having more money to play with on a day to day basis (spring clothes shopping! WOO!) but otherwise get me being all grownup. =)

Clearly I'll have to be immature elsewhere in order to keep things in balance.

In the meanwhile there's this meme going around my flist, though [livejournal.com profile] anomilygrace gets the greatest blame for sucking me in and whose version of the rules I am totally copying:

Week in the Life )

I'm actually anal retentive enough to want to put pictures in a separate post, so I'll go set that up now, yes.

Luna, like Mac, has this thing where she loves being near me. The two of them take turns cuddling in my lap when I'm on the couch. (Sometimes they try for both at once, which tends not to work out as well, but they remain optimistic.) If my lap is unavailable for whatever reason, Luna comes up with the next best thing which is to sit next to me, rest her wee little head on my forearm, look up at me with her big yellow eyes, and purr. It is really hard to maintain a grumpy mood when she does that.

I've been playing around with a nifty thing at work. Due to various reasons it's now possible for me to listen to music at my cube. I'm also on a kick of wanting to be exposed to music that I might not otherwise find out about. So I'm using Pandora Radio. The way that it works is that you set up stations based on artists and songs that you like, and then it takes the information to provide other music you might like. You can then tweak it by adding more songs/artists, and giving thumbs up and down to suggestions that it comes up with.

What's interesting is the trends that emerge. You can click on a thing to have it tell you why it picked a song, and it'll say something like "This was picked due to having an acoustic piano, minor keys, and repeating lyrics." or whatever. Usually with more music-geek wording. So it's fun to check in and read those and go "....yeah, that's me." even if prior to that I couldn't personally tell you what elements of a song made me like it. It's also pretty accurate because yesterday it came up with a song that I liked that I totally forgot about. It also has ties into Amazon and iTunes so that if you like a song you can go buy it. I haven't tried that feature yet but I like that it exists.

Finally, a meme that I'm swiping from [livejournal.com profile] spleen_merchant

How many times has someone on your friends list posted about something and you were really confused, but you didn't want to ask because you knew you SHOULD know? How many times have you felt "guilty" asking a close LJ friend a question that should be "obvious"?

Well, here's your chance. If you've missed a few things, missed an entry and are confused, ask me anything. Even something EXTREMELY basic, like where I live! I'm not going to get irritated at any of the questions - we've all missed things before, so ask away!

New 30 Rock tonight! Which is joyful to me, thank you kindly. Of course it's the last new ep before the WGA strike ends. GOD would they please pay the writers?

Tomorrow at Primatech we will be having our holiday party aka beginning of the year party aka whatever you want to call it when normally there'd be a big ol' party in December but for whatever reason we're doing it in Januaryi instead. This means we get to leave at 4 and go make ourselves all purdy and then go have food and possibly dancing. Hopefully I won't get zorched by a headache because I've had on/off almost migraines all this week. NOT ACCEPTABLE.

As for spreading more joy - other than the reminder about NEW 30 ROCK BEING ON TONIGHT - I come to you bearing clips. Because there are two things on Robot Chicken that will never not be funny and this and this are them. Enjoy!

FNL tonight = OMG. Go! Watch now!

Also, I shamelessly steal from [livejournal.com profile] trollprincess:

Took this twice (once at work, once at home) and got the same answer both times. Still, I'm curious, so feel free to tell me:

Is my daemon the right one for me? )

It is getting to be nice outside in a way that even a die hard polar bear like myself must admit is enjoyable. There's still that tinge of winter coldness, but it's balanced by sunlight and wisps of warmth and the sight of tiny flowers starting to poke their way through the soil.

I spent yesterday being scarily productive as my body responds to the changes in weather with the start of Spring cleaning. Today will be slightly more laid back as I only touch up a few things and then make soda bread. (The joys of doing your own cooking? You don't have to have raisins in your soda bread if you don't want 'em. *nodnod*)

The happy scent of Spring in the air has got me pondering changes in how I do some things. For reasons both frugal and environmental (mostly environmental) I'm thinking about moving away from drying my clothes in the dryer and line drying them instead. I'm one of the lucky few who lives in a co-op that actually encourages line drying and has not one but two whole sections dedicated to clothes lines. One of which is right outside my back porch. Also I have plenty of room in my apt to dry things indoors when the weather is not so hot.

The one thing that I wonder is how long the process takes. From looking out my kitchen window I can see laundry hung up sometime in the AM that is taken down before sunset, but I have no idea how early these folks get up to do that. And as you know, I am not what you would call an early riser.

Obviously all of this is affected by things like time of year and humidity and what have you, but is there anyone out there who line dries who can at least give a guesstimate? (ETA: Also a guesstimate on time it takes to dry indoors would be helpful.)

Finally, quiz ganked from [livejournal.com profile] cedara which I am copying here because the answer amuses me and, I imagine, will amuse [livejournal.com profile] justhuman as well, given what she knows about me ;)

Which Irish Goddess are you? )

I was tagged by [livejournal.com profile] tzikeh:

"Once tagged by this entry, the assignment is to list 10 movies: your 5 Favourites & your 5 Guilty Pleasures. Then, pick 5 of your friends and tag them. No tag backs. This explanation should be included."
Cut for thems who'd be bored by this )

I suck at tagging people so feel free to consider yourself tagged if you like. =)
